Most recent studies in this area of climate change have focused on assessing the direct effects of increased temperature and ocean acidification (AO) on the species, determining their ability to adapt to new conditions and modify their ranges of distribution.

However, some studies have shown the existence of impacts at the ecosystem level. The response of a species to the alteration in environmental conditions is not an isolated process, but is interconnected through interaction with the rest of the ecosystem. In this sense, MIMAR focuses its activities in order to attack climate change in a global way, analyzing all the factors that affect them: how it begins, how it develops, and what the mitigation mechanisms are. As a marine laboratory that already feels the global changes, the experience gained will be applicable in the future to the rest of waters of the continental EU.
